Low Fidelity Prototype - Atlas-Ring
There are some limitations to the ostomy bag specifically maintaining a secure lock closure under physical constraints. To solve this problem, we chose to make an attachment that could fit on to the ostomy bag and provide an extra secure lock. This attachment was called the Atlas-Ring. The low-fidelity prototype for the design solution that we innovated for our patient, Zuri can be seen below. The Atlas-Ring is a design modification to the two-piece ostomy bag which improves the Snap-Lock closure on the current Hollister ostomy bag by replacing it with a two-piece coupling attachment that is secured in place using a secure snap-lock mechanism. The attachment fits on to both the ostomy bag and the skin flange and to lock the two parts together, the user simply pushes the clips in place. This strong locking mechanism allows users to stay physically fit without having to worry about their ostomy bag falling off.
